LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE CONFERENCE

The mission of the conference is to educate organizations, human resource professionals and individual employees through various workshops and seminars. The information sharing will help to effect change in policy, practices, benefits, and opportunities in the workplace that will benefit all employees, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression. The focus of the conference will be on criminal justice and law enforcement issues as they relate to the LGBT community. The conference will provide an opportunity for police and law enforcement personnel from around the world to communicate more effectively with each other through various workshops, panel discussions and lectures, for the sharing of new ideas, strategies, and best practices on all subjects related to LGBT police personnel. The conference will help to establish best practice techniques and training necessary for the purpose of decreasing homophobia while increasing cultural diversity awareness in the workplace.

TORONTO POLICE SERVICE & THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY
Toronto has the third largest LGBT Community in North America. Gay Pride Week has been celebrated in Toronto since 1981. Pride Week is an event held in Toronto during the end of June each year. It is a celebration of the diversity of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) community in the Greater Toronto Area.The Toronto Police Service, recognizing the need to enhance its relationship with the LGBT Community, began celebrating Pride Week in 2000. The Toronto Police Service’s participation in the festivities, including the PRIDE Parade, serves to increase awareness of contributions made by members of the LGBT Community. Not only does the events reinforce the Services’ commitment to the LGBT Community, but also enhances the excellent rapport that exists between the LGBT Community and the Service.
