For Immediate Release
Toronto - October 17, 2013 – Pride Toronto announces that the following individuals have been selected to stand for election to the Board at the Annual General Meeting taking place on October 24, 2013:
- Aaron GlynWilliams
- Trini Mitra
- Dave Mossman
- Dana Suvagau
- Chris Tremeer
There are three (3) vacancies on the Board of Directors to be filled at the Annual General Meeting. Each Director will be elected for a term of three years. Biographies from each of the candidates are attached as appendices to this press release.
The role of Pride Toronto’s Board is to be involved in, among other things:
- the ongoing evaluation of the organization’s mission, vision, values and its strategic direction
- community and stakeholder outreach
- evaluation of the internal and external structures of the organization
- financial oversight and due diligence
The candidates were selected after a robust recruitment process that involved a call for applications, which was publicized in various media and professional networks; review of CVs and supporting materials; and interviews of applicants conducted by a panel consisting of current Board members, a volunteer team lead, and a community representative (a human resources professional). The call for applications sought individuals with demonstrated experience and qualifications in one or more of the following areas: strategic planning; human resources; financial management; and previous Festival experience. The interviews consisted of standardized and ad hoc questions designed to evaluate applicants on their skills and experiences, personal and professional qualifications, knowledge of the LGBTTIQQ2SA* community, and commitment to the organization's mission, vision, and values.
After the review panel made its recommendations, the Board approved the aforementioned candidates to stand for election. Pride Toronto sincerely thanks all individuals who submitted applications and expressed interest in becoming involved with the organization. We also would like to thank and acknowledge the work of the Board Development & Recruitment committee over the past year under the guidance of Kerry Bell, committee chair.
Pride Toronto values and expressly affirms its commitment to diversity in all its forms, dimensions, and expressions. Pride Toronto is confident that this recruitment process has served the organization well and has resulted in a more diverse and representative group of applicants, candidates, and Board members in recent years, including three strong women being elected at the last AGM. The organization remains committed to continuously improving the recruitment process and exploring ways to encourage experienced and qualified individuals from diverse communities and equity-seeking groups to submit applications in the future.
