BLACKNESS YES! presents STILL WE RISE: BLOCKORAMA 16

In 1998, Blackness Yes! called out the need for a community-led space for black diasporic LGBTTI2QQ people and their loved ones at Pride Toronto. Together they created Blockorama, designed to affirm, celebrate and ensure visible Black and Caribbean LGBTTI2QQ communities within Pride; and to create a vehicle for HIV/AIDS information dissemination.

Since 1998, Blackness Yes! has worked year-round to celebrate Black LGBTTI2QQ history, creativity and resistance. We are thrilled to present STILL WE RISE: BLOCKORAMA 16, a day-long celebration commemorating our 16th year of soul-inspiring music, dance and arts programming and ringing in World pride 2014!

Participate in several art activities and interactive performances throughout the day, including Activist Love Letters, facilitated by artist and activist Syrus Marcus Ware. performers throughout the day include: Ashley Bea,Troy Jackson, Theesatisfaction (Seattle), LAL (Toronto) plus fierce performances by dance icons Ill nana, Urbanesque and the House of Monroe.

Be sure to catch our special guest, dance music icon, Crystal Waters, helping us ring in our sweet 16 in style. Drag divas Vitality Black, Devine Darlin’,Michelle Ross and drag King Wesley Dykes Darling join an amazing roster of DJs including: Tameka, Roxanne, Pleasure, nik red, Carma, Craig Dominic, Blackcat and internationally acclaimed superstar jojoflores.

Our hosts, Akhaji Zakiya and Twysted Miyake will keep you entertained throughout the day!

Blackness Yes! is a committee made up of members of Toronto’s black queer and trans communities. They volunteer their time to put together the Blockorama stage every year at Toronto Pride.. We are happy to be working with members across of our communities to bring you a truly diasporic array of entertainment.
